The Conan Portfolio - Plate 2
- THE CONAN PORTFOLIO: Plate 2 - A black ink and black color pencil on a 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears as part of a Conan art folio in the comics magazine, "The Savage Sword of Conan, No.9".
A few years later, I received a copy of a French science fiction magazine that featured this drawing on the cover. It had been tinted with color. The editor of that magazine had not contacted me for permission to use my artwork so it was unethical and illegal for him to do that.
In cases like this it is not worth the effort to try to collect payment, since the cost of hiring a lawyer to deal with the foreign publisher would be far more than the amount of payment due me for the printing rights to my artwork. This was the only time, that I'm aware of, that a foreign publisher used my artwork without first contacting me for permission.
